Getting the right bra size makes all the difference in comfort, support, and confidence. Many women wear the wrong size because they don’t know how to measure themselves at home, or they rely on inconsistent sizing charts from different brands. Below is a simple step-by-step guide you can follow easily — using a soft tape measure — to find your true bra size.
Before you start, make sure you have a soft measuring tape that lies flat against your body. A cloth or flexible synthetic tape works best because it contours to curves without digging into the skin.
Wrap the tape around your body directly underneath your breasts where a bra band sits.
Keep the tape horizontal and snug — not too tight, not too loose.
Take the number in inches.
Add 3 inches to this measurement to get your band size.
If the result is odd, round down to the nearest even number. For example:
33 becomes 32
35 becomes 34
📌 Note: Some sizing methods recommend adding a few extra inches to odd numbers, but many modern brands now use the direct measurement instead — so you may need to check a specific brand’s sizing chart.
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust.
Make sure the tape is parallel to the ground and comfortable.
Record this measurement in inches. This is your bust size.
To find your cup size, subtract your band size from your bust size:
Cup Size = Bust Size − Band Size
Then use the table:
For example, if your bust measurement is 38″ and your band is 34″, the difference is 4″ — which corresponds to D cup. Combine these for your bra size: 34D.
While this method gives a great baseline, remember that bra sizes can vary slightly by brand and style — so the fit might differ.
Not all measuring tapes are created equal when it comes to bra fitting. Let’s compare:
Traditional Soft Tape Measures
Examples include:
Tailor Measuring Tape — a generic flexible measuring tape with metal ends.
These tapes work, but—they don’t have bra-specific guidance or visual cues to help users measure correctly.
Our Custom Bra Measuring Tape
Our tape is designed specifically for bra size measurement and offers advantages that generic tapes don’t:
Polyfiber fabric material — softer and more comfortable against skin, perfect for under-bust and bust curves.
Color-coded zones — visually marked sections that help users quickly locate common sizing ranges.
Printed measurement guide on the reverse — so you can perform a self-fit without guessing.
This means faster, easier, and more accurate measurements at home — especially for beginners or anyone tired of inconsistent bra sizing.
If you’re an innerwear brand, boutique, or retailer, custom bra measuring tapes bring real value to your business:
